I jus got a hit from one of the malware which disables the "Show Hidden File" option and "Task Manager"
To get rid of this problem I stumbled on the net... and yes I got the recovary methods
Even you might find this useful
1. To enable task manager
- Go to Start Menu => Run
- Type following text there as it is
REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
- Press Enter
- Your Task Manager will be enabled again
2. To Re-activate the Show hidden files button in Folder Option
- Click “Start” -> “Run…” (or press Windows key + R)
- Type “regedit” and click “Ok”. (This is the way to enter Windows Registry)
- Find the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\
Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL
- Look at the “CheckedValue” key… This should be a DWORD key. If it isn’t, delete the key.
- Create a new key called “CheckedValue” as a DWORD (hexadecimal) with a value of 1.
- The “Show hidden files & folders” check box should now work normally.
